“It is not always possible to do away with negative thinking, but with persistence and practice, one can gain mastery over them so that they do not take the upper hand.”
― Stephen Richards

Warning This Post Does Not Contain A Magical Remedy!

Over the past two years I have begun to notice that I do not look at the negative side of things automatically.  Writing about my challenges seems to have retrained my thought pattern by seeing the positive in situations. I am truly not sure of when it happened, all that I know is that it did.

Dealing with the negative stuff in life is difficult for most people, some are better at handling them than others.  It sometimes makes you wonder do they have a secret that you wish they would tell you.  My best friend is so cheerful as soon as his eyes are open.  He loves to kid around making it hard to know when he is really being serious.  This at times can make me feel so frustrated.  He sees the funny side of most matters.  For me I take a long time to get motivated in the morning.  However, caffeine helps with that problem.

Then there have been others in my life that seem to naturally be the “woe is me” twenty-four/seven.  After awhile I would find myself copying their attitude.  It would take me some time shake that off.  I finally just had to cut them out of my life.

When my Psychiatrist stopped to visit me while I was in the hospital several weeks back I told her just before she had to go, “consider me a student that’s graduated”.  She immediately remarked that she liked such a positive spin.  It truly felt wonderful to let her see my transformation for she did see me when I was so negative about my life.

Let me state for the record I do not have a twelve step plan for others on dealing with negatives in your life, I just don’t.  Let’s be truthful, if I did that more than likely it would cause more negativity that positivism.  Also, I do not have a formal education with a degree in Psychiatry.

So dear reader let me encourage you that it turning negatives into positives can happen in your life!  As the old adage, practice, practice, practice!

Looking For The Positive

The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do. Kobe Bryant

I chose that quote for it is truly how I feel when writing here in the WordPress community.  It could be that this is ingrained in me from my days of being an evangelist and a pastor.

I have written before that if I let myself go I can be pessimistic.  Today is one of those days where I just feel ugly on the inside.  I have nothing happening that would the reason for that feeling.

I was trying to read some posts of the ones I followed and for the life of me not one thing stood out for me that I could use for today.  It wasn’t the writers fault, it was just that I wanted to say, “blah, blah, blah”.

There is so much negative things happening all around us, the main concern for everyone around the world is ‘the corona virus’.  There is also so much misinformation, some coming from the higher ups in government, they should know better.  Even here in Canada this virus is starting to spread throughout the nation.  Fear permeates the air, the news, printed and online.

So, for tonight I pray that tomorrow I will have a great dose of optimism!

Positive; Hard Work

I’ve always believed that you can think positive just as well as you can think negative. James Baldwin

Staying positive in a negative world is truly a struggle.

It started Tuesday when I was waiting for a parcel to be delivered by a courier.  At 7 p.m., I receive an email that they couldn’t find the address.  It was like they were without GPS or a phone.  After a phone call to a call center located where unknown I was told that the next delivery is for today, Thursday.

There are those on a spectrum that espoused the theory of “Positive Thinking”.  Yes, they base it on a Scripture, but if the truth be known living in the real world of 2020 negativity rules.

I already lean towards being pessimistic, when I am sent for x-rays, or blood work I automatically start thinking the worse.  I cannot help myself it is just a habit that was developed when I was younger.

If you listen to the political party that is not government you would think that the world is coming to the end, an Armageddon.  That is the only time I will mention politics.  It is like that in most democratic societies, I live in Canada.

Turn on any news channel and the airwaves are flooded with all things negative. Oh yes, once in awhile there may be one short news article that is positive.  For the ninety nine percent it is utterly negative.

So, I sit here fighting to think positive in a crappy negative world!  Staying positive is hard work!

May I Present To You…

Negative thinking is subtle and deceptive. It wears many faces and hides behind the mask of excuses. It is important to strip away the mask and discover the real, root emotion. Robert H. Schuller

I have lived my life guarding it from all onlookers.  I kept people at a distance, never truly trusting anyone.  I have been hurt the worst when I did open myself to others.  I learned that this saying is true; “familiarity breeds contempt”.

I started this blog to write about all things Biblical.  I struggled to write any posts for deep inside me there was this person who needed to surface to have some fresh air.

Somewhere in these passing few months that person surfaced, ready to share his true feelings, feelings of fear, dread, hating to get out of bed each morning.

I learned a lot as a preacher, musician, about how to put on a show for people.  Giving them a caricature that wore a mask.

I was the preacher everyone thought I should be.  I knew all the right portions of Scripture, every nuance, how to weave a message from beginning to end.  I was full of energy while ministering in song and the Word. But, as soon as I reached the inside of my apartment I was drained, weary, and feeling totally abandoned.

Even now being in a crowd I have energy while being with them, but cannot wait to leave the gathering and just disappeared into my safe little world of my space.

Slowly, very slowly, somewhat cautious, that person who needed to breathe has been revitalized able to express himself.

I would like to thank everyone who has clicked “follow”, left a “comment”.

Thank you for the encouragement that has allowed this person to be begin to breathe.

May I present…
