A Re-Blog: Stress and Men’s Health — Health by Gigi

Feeling stressed is a reality for most of us at the moment. We are still in the midst of a global pandemic, with second waves of the virus trying to emerge across Australia. I wanted to blog specifically about stress and men’s health because it’s not often focused on. Stress can impact specific aspects of […]

Life only demands from you the strength that you possess. Only one feat is possible; not to run away. Dag Hammarskjold

I will soon be fifty-nine years old, no birthday parties, no gifts, just a run of the mill day for me. At this age comes with it the ability to reflect on your life, it’s ups, it’s downs, the battles lost, the battles won.

For most of my life I was not great at managing things, time, rest, exercise, and oh yes, money.  I was almost hopeless with my finances, as the idiom goes “money burns a hole in my pocket”.  So, you can imagine the rest from here, needless to say I would jump every time the phone rang.

Life will demand a lot in your life, school, career, marriage, family, and if time allows relaxation.  Sometimes I would think I needed to have six more arms and hands.  I look back on those days and truly wonder how I made it to my thirties without going bonkers.  Then when I did break it was in grand style.

I look at the world then I scratch my head, thinking how are the children able to function normally.  So many things hollering for their attention, cell phones, computers, social media, school peers and all things education. I think to myself, it may sound selfish, but I wouldn’t want to have to attend school in this day and age.

It is my understanding that most people will have at least two careers.  My father’s generation had just one job from the time they left school until they retired at the age of sixty-five.  I have been told that even with a degree out of college does not guarantee you a great paying job.  I know people who have degrees who are working at jobs for minimum wage.  For that position they are over qualified.

In the early nineties I flipped burgers, then became a breakfast manager. I remember during orientation being told for every person who quits there is a thousand people waiting to take their place.

So dear reader, take this from an old man, life will be bumpy, there will be highs, lows, laughs, and tears.  Like an old preacher said to me, “what don’t kill you will make you stronger”. I have learned that to be true!

Don’t Give Up or Give In!

A Reblog -An Easy Way To Soothe Stress — No Stress

An Easy Way To Soothe Stress Hey,listen up. It’s time to relax, chill out, and release those pent-up physical, mental and emotional tensions. Arrrrgggggghhhh!!

clause-3213669_1280

We are buried beneath the weight of information, which is being confused with knowledge; quantity is being confused with abundance and wealth with happiness.

I have been having what I call “brain aches”.  It feels like some wires are not connected properly.  I can be listening to something but if you asked me what was said I would tell you I haven’t a clue.

My usual excuse would be blame it on the medications.  But I wake up and still feel like this.  I have to think what tv programs did I listen to the night before, I just cannot remember.

I find myself frustrated, cranky, and all that goes with those two things.  I truly cannot put my finger on the issue, yet I know somewhere deep there must be one.

If I feel this way, what does the person who has not been able to work at his/her job feel like.  They have to put food on the table, keep a roof above their heads.  Their level frustration must be at eleven!

Then their are all those who are grieving but cannot give their loved one a proper home going.  How must they feel?  I can imagine the utter hopelessness they must be experiencing through everything.  It truly breaks this heart of mine.

So, this fifty-eight year old former pastor prays that there will be a relief in the near future soon!

The Unseen Enemy

When you are dealing with an invisible enemy,
use most resources as shield, and a bit as a bait.”  ― Toba Beta, Betelgeuse Incident: Insiden Bait Al-Jauza

It knows no boundaries.

It is equal opportunity. It’s victims come from all classes, races, gender, and age.

It is always there in the shadows waiting to attack another victim.  It moves without sound, not slowed down by walls or windows.

It works hand – in – hand with the grim reaper. He has claimed hundreds of thousands, overwhelming all under-takers.

It also attacks people’s mental health, stress levels have shot up one hundred, fifty times.

It has moved into countries and plans on being a boarder for several years.

Yes, this invisible enemy has been quite busy for several months.  Who is this invisible enemy, none other than Covid-19 virus.

I Will Not Panic, That’s My Final Answer!

“Being under stress is like being stranded in a body of water. If you panic, it will cause you to flail around so that the water rushes into your lungs and creates further distress. Yet, by calmly collecting yourself and using controlled breathing you remain afloat with ease.”
― Alaric Hutchinson,Living Peace: Essential Teachings for Enriching Life

I know, it is easy and almost a cop-out to tell someone “Don’t Panic”.  For something that this writer doesn’t understand but by telling a person that it seems to heighten their panic.

Along with panic there is a close relative emotion that tags along, frustration.  It is almost unavoidable these days not to feel frustration, not to panic realizing that the rent is due this week.

Now mix in insomnia and you have a disaster looking for a place to happen.  Trying to force yourself to go to sleep in the meanwhile images of all the bills that need to be paid but the bank account tells you that you are overdrawn.

No matter who you speak with you can definitely hear the frustration and panic in their voice.  A neighbor is somewhat like me, not going out in hesitation worrying about covid-19.

Yet, I need to go grocery shopping this week so that the cupboards do not start looking bare.  At least if I go to the big “W” I can go during the first hour that is reserved for seniors, or those who have compromised immune systems. I won’t decide until the very last minute whether I go or have my best friend do my shopping.

So, I all can do in this time and space is to tell myself “Don’t Panic”!

A Re-blog: Anxiety Cure — No Stress

Anxiety Cure Summary: Psychological therapies are much more effective anxiety cure than medications. It is normal for people to experience anxiety from to time. It makes us cope from very stressful situations. But when anxiety becomes too much and turns into irrational fear of everyday circumstances, it becomes a debilitating anxiety disorder. Unlike short-lived, mild…

The Detoxification Of My Mind

vintage-1418613_1280

Woodson Merrell  “Often we see detox as a solitary pursuit, something we have to muscle up for and go it alone. But the truth is that it will be easier and healthier if you find a way to integrate your friends and family into the experience.”
― Woodson Merrell, The Detox Prescription: Supercharge Your Health, Strip Away Pounds, and Eliminate the Toxins Within

I feel safe in saying that all across the globe people’s stress level is probably on extra high.  Everything is at a complete standstill,  jobs, finances, social life, children to tend to and if school age try to teach them at home.

Even the children are stressed out, not being able to play and socialize with their friends. Pent up energy and no place to displace it.

Today when I woke up I decided that it would be the day to completely detox my mind.  Let me explain, in high school I took computer class, this is way before personal computers, one of the first thing we learned about programming was this, “garbage in, garbage out”.  So it is with the mind.

I have had my fill with news and the concentration of Covid-19. So I have been doing things to bring out all the toxic waste in my mind.  I finished reading two books, I prefer paper, but Kindle will do, so I downloaded the book “Fahrenheit 451”.  I am reading up on how a democracy can fall, remember Germany and Hitler.

My television was on, but, I found a science program that I like, “Wonders of The Solar System”, the host is Professor Brian Cox. His voice is calm and peaceful and I have begun to grasp so much about our solar system.

Later I am going to click on I Tunes and listen to Michael Buble.  My daughter gave me a CD of his, his music is great and it is also very relaxing.

I realize everyone will approach the detoxification of their mind differently, Yoga, meditation, hot tea, or any other method that helps let off all the toxic garbage that has built up since this lock down.

So, dear reader, I encourage you to take some time, find some ways to let go and cleanse your mind so that you will feel renewed!
